Meet our friend Jay.
During the fall of 2014, Jay had hip replacement surgery. While doing his follow-up exercises, he accidentally fell, severing his esophagus. He lay inches from death in a coma for 14 days and spent the next 4 months bedridden.
With diligent physical therapy Jay regained 30% of the strength in his legs and feet. He arrived at the Y in July 2015 with his doctor’s blessing to try water exercise.
Jay is now at 50 – 60% and getting stronger every day. He says “The entire experience has been faith-building. I have been blessed by God to get this second chance, and I’m blessed every day by the wonderful staff and friends I’ve made at the Y. The people at the Y have become like another family to me. We encourage each other in every aspect – physically, mentally and spiritually.”
